Feed My Starving Children
Our shifts are usually two hours long and full of food, productivity and laughter. Kids as young as third grade are invited to help. Stay tuned for our next packing date and invite your friends, family and neighbors to help, too.
This year our Sunday school kids decided their offering will benefit FMSC!

The Free Community Meal – 4th Saturday of Every Month
On January 24, 2011 St. John’s Lutheran Church began offering a free community meal in the church Fellowship Hall on the fourth Saturday of every month. We welcome our South Minneapolis neighbors who are hungry, in need, and stretching paychecks. Each meal is served from noon to 1pm. We need 6-8 volunteers each month. If you would like to help, please sign up on the bulletin board outside Fellowship Hall.
Our food shelf items now benefit those who attend the Community Meal. Remembering to include healthy items for others in our shopping carts is a great way to support our neighbors and to practice generosity as a family.
Loaves and Fishes
Members of St. John’s Lutheran Church cook and serve dinner for Loaves and Fishes at the St. Stephen’s site in Minneapolis on 22nd Street and Clinton Avenue on the 4th Monday evening of every other month. This is a wonderful ministry that connects people all over the Twin Cities. Contact Marlene Holden or the church office for more information about the next St. John’s opportunity – come check it out!
Lutheran Malaria Initiative — Sunday School Offerings Make a Difference
Last year our Sunday schoolers collected $212 (and our adults were inspired to raise that total to $350!) to help keep families in Africa malaria-free. This preventable disease infects 250 million people each year, but the ELCA Malaria Campaign is working to raise awareness and provide hope. Our congregation’s support of churchwide ministries and your designated gifts are adding up to make a big difference!
St. John’s Lutheran Church provides prayerful and financial support to ZOOM House in Minneapolis, which supplies families in transition with safe, affordable housing in a community that offers educational advancement, neighborhood involvement, spiritual growth, economic stability, and support in moving toward self-sufficiency.
St. John’s Child Care Center
The St. John’s Child Care Center is a licensed and accredited program that serves the educational and child-care needs in our south Minneapolis community. We provide a stable, comfortable, and safe environment in which children are given opportunities to promote social interaction, emotional growth, and cognitive skills. St. John’s Lutheran Church is proud to be a part of Minneapolis families for more than 100 years.
St. John’s Music Series
The Music Series seeks to offer all people the opportunity to hear great music, performed well, and at no cost. These concerts include events for all ages and are open to the public, encouraging all who love music to attend.
Chi Rho Camp and Retreat Center
Chi Rho is located on a wooded peninsula at Lake Sylvia, 60 miles west of Minneapolis. The camp is a beautiful part of St. John’s history and mission as a congregation, available for use by other organizations, meetings, retreats and activities by request and reservation. Chi Rho is owned and operated by St. John’s Lutheran Church.
