Justice Page Middle School Program

The community and neighborhood (CAN) committee focuses on serving the hungry in our community, primarily youth at Justice Page Middle School.  Highlights of the Justice Page Middle School program across the street from church:
– provides food products in backpacks for 15 families per month;
– provides pantry food for the school food shelf, and
– partners with St. John’s Child Care families to pack additional bags of food and gift cards for additional families during the holiday season.
. In addition to the Justice Page food programs, we collect school supplies and children’s clothing in summer. They are provided to students at Justice Page needing such supplies in the fall.

The Free Community Meal – 4th Saturday of Every Month

On January 24, 2011 St. John’s Lutheran Church began offering a free community meal in the church Fellowship Hall on the fourth Saturday of every month. We welcome our South Minneapolis neighbors who are hungry, in need, and stretching paychecks. Each meal is served from noon to 1pm. We need 6-8 volunteers each month. If you would like to help, please sign up on the bulletin board outside Fellowship Hall.

Our food shelf items now benefit those who attend the Community Meal. Remembering to include healthy items for others in our shopping carts is a great way to support our neighbors and to practice generosity as a family.

Loaves and Fishes

Members of St. John’s Lutheran Church cook and serve dinner for Loaves and Fishes at the St. Stephen’s site in Minneapolis on 22nd Street and Clinton Avenue on the 4th Monday evening of every other month. This is a wonderful ministry that connects people all over the Twin Cities. Contact Marlene Holden or the church office for more information about the next St. John’s opportunity – come check it out!
