Bible Studies in Summer

BIBLE STUDY led by Pastor Mark meets on Thursday mornings at 10:00 a.m. in St. John’s Lounge. Each session will explore some of the main aspects of our Christian faith using a series of "Making Sense..." studies developed by Rev. Dr. David Lose. The first course this summer is "Making Sense of Scripture." All are welcome to join the conversation!

CELEBRATING 135 YEARS OF ST. JOHN’S—LET’S GO! Save the dates of August 17-19 as we gather for a congregation-wide celebration of our St. John’s family in ministry. Festivities begin on Friday, August 17 at our Chi Rho Center, Annandale, with gathering and a meal from 4-6 p.m., opening worship about 7 p.m. and fellowship around the campfire. Saturday includes First Word at the lakeshore, breakfast, morning electives for everyone and free time for families after lunch, and sending worship after supper. Whom do you trust?

Find out on Wednesday, August 22 when Dr. Richard Bents from Future Systems Consulting comes to St. John's. You are invited to participate in a survey created to assess the degree to which you trust yourself and others and how you may use this insight to build relationships. The program runs from 6:00pm - 7:30pm and is offered free of charge to St. John's members and friends. Please sign up by calling the church office.

Look forward to outdoor worship; Sunday School registration; music groups coming together again; and the new Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministry, Amy Mihelich, joining the CYF Committee. July 3-8: The month kicks off with the Toso's family reunion—growing bigger each year and now close to 50 people. July 9-12: Edina Boys Cross Country team comes with over 100 athletes and coaches to bond as they partici- pate in activities like Olympic team events (in groups of four) and Ultimate frisbee. Their goal is to work together and support one another through camp. July 13-15: Tae Kwon Do comes for about their 20th year. The group of 25-30 comes with great energy and kindness to everyone. In the education series I am currently teaching, ‘Making Sense of Scripture,’ author Rev. Dr. David Lose writes that “Stories, especially family stories, tell us who we are… the stories of the Bible work the same way.  They tell us about our ancestors, our parents and grandparents and aunts and uncles in the faith.  It helps us feel closer to these people who lived so long ago. We have a sense of knowing them, of belonging to the same family.  And when we hear their stories, about their struggles or the tough scrapes they were in, it gives us hope and [...]

Flowers for Teachers!

During Teacher Appreciation Week, Tina Shear and Venita Ditlevson were each presented with bouquets of 30 roses for their 30 years of leadership at St. John's Child Care Center. See photos below. The tulip bouquet is for all the Child Care Center teachers in appreciation for their great work.  The Child Care staff was also honored by St. John's at special 'lunch and learn' events that week.

Tower of Towels

Missionary Circle would like to thank the congregation for the Tall Tower of Towels! Bea Hasselmann delivered 118 towels to a homeless shelter in May. The Circle will next meet at noon on Wednesday, September 5 at St. John's.
