St. John’s Congregation Child Care Center and Congregation are teaming up this Advent season for the second annual Giving Tree for Justice Page Middle School families who have been identified by school social workers as “highly mobile/at risk.” Our goal is to provide each family with a backpack bursting with food, one Target gift card and one Cub Foods gift card. To avoid making the backpacks too heavy for students to carry, we are asking folks to choose food packets and plastic when possible. Help us fill the monthly Page Back- packs with food. Items needed in February: small plastic jars of peanut butter, canned tuna and chicken, cans of chunky soup/stew, canned ravioli, boxes of dried noodle soup, canned peaches, pears and pineapple, canned corn, applesauce (plastic only), pudding snack packs, mac and cheese, small bags of brown rice. Money to purchase fresh fruit is always welcome. Make checks out to St. John’s and write ‘Backpack Food’ in memo, or drop off Aldi or Cub gift cards in the church office. October was a month of joyful celebrations! October 21, we hosted Kaitlyn and Isaac Johnson’s wedding. On October 29 we celebrated a baptism for Henry, a baptism for Sylvia, Clara Willette’s confirmation of faith, all under the banner of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation! All of this brought to life the saying is sure: “Truly the Spirit of the Lord is in this place!” And God’s spirit continues to blow life into us, carrying us into November. Worship at St. John's on Sunday at 10:00 am and stay for fellowship and donuts. Sunday school is at 9:15 am. This Advent, we will focus on welcoming the Christ Child, members, neighbors, and guests to St. John’s. St. John’s youth will be creating ornaments to be displayed in our narthex using photos of St. John’s members.
