Support to Families

THANK YOU! "Thank you so much to everyone who donated to the school supplies drive for Washburn! The community's response to this project was incredible. After counting and organizing all of the donations--including over 250 notebooks!--18 backpacks were filled with all the supplies a high school student might need. On top of that, monetary donations totaled to $745! This money will be put towards several Target gift cards, which will allow students to purchase specific supplies and personal necessities. Thanks to the awesome South Minneapolis community, these students will be fully prepared to start their school year. Samantha is inspired [...]

Christmas Eve Worship at 4:00 PM

"And the word became flesh and dwelt among us....full of grace and truth." All are welcome to St. John’s Christmas Eve Service of Lessons and Carols, Candles, and Holy Communion on December 24 at 4 PM. Together, we proclaim and celebrate the true light of Christ which has come, for all people, into the darkness of our world. In spite of all that is broken in our world, we proclaim the eternal Word being born among us. God comes to us with redemption and hope. Come one and all! “O Come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord!”

A Word from the Pastor – December

This article comes with my apologies to Charles Dickens (and Andy Williams). It was Education Minnesota Weekend (formerly known as MEA Weekend) in October when I entered a large dis-count store and was surprised to find Christmas décor already on display. I sighed in disbelief and little disgust. It wasn’t even Halloween yet, for crying out loud! (Wow… I kind of sounded like Ebenezer Scrooge.) I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised since the purchasing habits and the marketability of Christmas is a powerful force in our economic system, but still… in October? REALLY?!? Humbug. About two weeks later, I [...]

BAKED GOODS NEEDED

Cookies are needed for the receptions following both Messiah performances on December 12 & 13. St. John's Music Series hosts lovely receptions following both concerts for well over 300 people combined between the two events. It is a wonderful time of fellowship and celebration of all the talented musicians that are so dedicated to these performances. As you begin your holiday baking, please consider setting aside 2-3 dozen as a contribution for our receptions. You may leave your cookies in the kitchen labeled for the Messiah reception. Thank you for your gift of hospitality!
